The first round of your new robot vacuum cleaner

You’ve got your new robot vacuum cleaner at home and you want it to start its first cleaning route quickly. Setting up and maintaining your cleaning assistant is easier than it seems. In this article, we’ll guide you on what to pay attention to when using your robot for the first time. This way, you can be sure it performs well and lasts as long as possible.

Take the robot vacuum cleaner out of the packaging and carefully lay out all the components. Follow the steps below to prepare your new robot vacuum cleaner for its first cleaning round:

Step 1: Prepare Your Home ready for the Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Step 2: Place the Charging Station

Step 3: Set Up the Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Step 4: Maintain Your Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Step 1: Prepare Your Home ready for the Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Remove any obstacles that could hinder the robot during its cleaning. This includes loose cables, toys, or furniture that might be in the way (although the robot vacuum can detect cables and will avoid driving over them). It's recommended not to place furniture too close to one another or in the middle of a room. This will make it easier for the robot to map the space efficiently and prevent it from getting stuck.

Step 2: Place the Charging Station in the Right Spot

The correct location of the charging station is crucial for your robot vacuum cleaner to function properly. Place the charging station against a wall and ensure there is at least 50 cm of free space on either side of the station. If the station is placed too close to other furniture, the robot may have trouble finding it, which could lead to confusion or incomplete charging.

Step 3: Set Up the Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Many robot vacuums are easy to set up via an app. Follow the instructions in the app to get your robot ready for use. Make sure to fully charge the robot the first time you use it. This helps calibrate the battery, ensuring it lasts longer. Often, during its first cleaning round, the robot will map your home, after which you can easily set up a cleaning schedule for the week.

Step 4: Maintain Your Robot Vacuum Cleaner

After the first cleaning round, you can usually let the robot do its job without much attention. However, it’s important to perform regular maintenance to keep its performance and lifespan up:

  • Empty the dustbin regularly. It’s better to empty it more often than too little. This goes automatic with the charging/emptying station.
  • Check the brushes, filter, wheels, and sensors for any blockages from hair or other debris, and clean them if necessary.
